Innerviews, music without borders
Steve Rothery

Steve Rothery

has made a major impact as a guitarist and composer since co-founding the progressive rock band Marillion in 1979. He remains a central creative force in the group, shaping its signature atmospheric and melodic sound. Rothery's latest recording is Bioscope's Gentō, a collaborative album with multi-instrumentalist and producer Thorsten Quaeschning. Rothery explores a more cinematic and experimental side of his musical identity on Gentō. The LP blends ambient textures, long-form sequencer-driven structures, and pulsing and cascading patterns. Bioscope also reflects Rothery’s interest in pursuing storytelling within an instrumental context, with its focus on communicating humanity’s fascination with the moving image. Rothery discusses Bioscope, his previous solo work, and Marillion's current activities in this video conversation.
